Project Update: New Coles, McDonald's and town centre approved for Schofields

coles and macdonalds coming soon to schofields sydney

Schofields is getting an exciting new town centre which will include a Coles supermarket, McDonald’s, specialty retail and a childcare centre.

The site is part of the Alex Avenue Precinct in the North West Growth Centre and although most of the suburb currently doesn’t exist yet, the new town centre will support the suburb as it is built over the next 15 to 20 years.

PeopleTrans were engaged by Coles as the Transport Consultants responsible for preparing the Transport Impact Assessment to support the Development Application but also importantly PeopleTrans continued to provide expert witness advice during the Land and Environment Court proceedings.

Approval for this site involved extensive consultation by PeopleTrans and the Project Team with Transport for New South Wales, Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and Blacktown City Council.

PeopleTrans provided traffic engineering and transport planning advice to the project team on the pedestrian access requirements within the site and links to the nearby Schofields railway station and bus interchange location, bicycle parking spaces, integration with nearby existing and future bus stop routes, design of the car park access ways and the layout of the car park, the required number of car parking spaces and loading dock operational management plans.

PeopleTrans also prepared concept road designs for Jacqui Avenue and Railway Terrace, a TCS design for the intersection of Jacqui Avenue / Railway Terrace, undertook detailed Sidra traffic modelling for the future year operation of the road network and obtained approval from RMS for the proposed road network changes.

The project team’s design for the road network was an alternative design to that envisaged in the planning documents for the town centre by Blacktown City Council. The road design proposed by PeopleTrans provided less road space for general traffic and more open space for the town centre benefitting the ultimate users of the town centre in the future.

The development was approved by the Land and Environment Court on 5 November 2019.
PeopleTrans was proud to have been involved in this project and looks forward to its construction and opening in the near future.
